- The Murray State News notes, "Several mid-majors made impressive runs in the 2010 NCAA Tournament including Cornell’s appearance in the Sweet 16."
- Recapping Kansas' last game, KUSports.com writes, "KU trailed at the half in a non-conference game for the first time since it trailed Cornell, 31-28, on Jan. 6, 2011."
- The gambling site, Sports Chat Place, analyzes tonight's game vs. St. Peter's.
- Researchers at Cornell onced studied the men's basketball team to explore the theory of the "hot hand" in basketball. See the Herald Net. It wrties, "Researchers from Cornell and Stanford decided to explore our instincts and beliefs about streaks, and in 1985 published what quickly became the classic work on the subject. 'The Hot Hand in Basketball: On the Misperception of Random Sequences' appeared in the professional journal, 'Cognitive Psychology,' and was aimed at psychologists rather than athletes, sports fans or coaches. The authors, Thomas Gilovich at Cornell, along with Robert Vallone and Amos Tversky at Stanford, made a significant error of estimate in the size of the potential audience, though. It wasn't just psychologists who were interested...While the researchers had access to the 76ers' data and were able to interview the Celtics players, they also set up a more controlled experiment, using the members of the Cornell basketball team, which allowed them to look at players' expectations for shots as well as results."
- Cornell RPI Watch: The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of November 17 is No. 197 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 184 in the nation, while the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) have Cornell at No. 179. Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.
