Below, news and notes for Thursday...- A Siena player who "single-handedly won" a game against Cornell last season is out for the year per MassLive.
- Dwight Tarwater's (Cornell '14) first official game in a Cal uniform is Friday.
- Previewing Boston College, Duke Basketball Report writes, "After last season's disastrous turn (8-24 is pretty much a disaster), B.C. fired Steve Donahue. We were sorry to see him go. We saw his Cornell team at Duke and it was legit. That was a fine team. We thought he'd get it done there."
- The Binghmaton Sun Bulletin writes, "Instead of a high-octane high-tempo high-scoring team, the [Binghamton] Bearcats were characterized by a high-turnover low-efficiency offense last season. There were high points such as the 59-point second half performance against Cornell and a 29-point margin of victory at home against the University of New Hampshire, but consistency wasn't a trademark of the 2013-14 Binghamton University men's basketball team."
- The Patriot League notes, "[On Sunday] Loyola [is] playing its home opener against Cornell (4 p.m., Patriot League Network)"
- Penn State Athletics writes, "The Nittany Lions are slated to take part in the 2014 Charleston Classic, Nov. 20-23 in Charleston, S.C. They will open play in the tourney by taking on Charlotte at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 on ESPNU and then will face either South Carolina or Cornell on the second day of the three-day event. The remaining teams in the field include Akron, Drexel, Miami (Fla.), and Southern California."
8. Cornell (2-26, 1-13) >> The Big Red were the worst team in the league last season by a significant margin. They could be a bit better this year with the return of senior forward Shonn Miller, although that optimism was dampened significantly with the news that leading scorer Nolan Cressler was transferring to Vanderbilt. Senior guard Devin Cherry is a capable scorer and sophomore big David Onuorah showed promise last season, but the rest of the league is probably too talented to avoid another bottom-tier finish.
