Tonight's top notes:

Princeton enters the weekend one-and-a-half games back of Harvard in the Ivy League standings. Both teams have road games this weekend, with the Crimson at Brown and Yale.

In the most recent trip to Columbia and Cornell, the Tigers lost their Ivy League opener in Ithaca last season before rebounding to a 1-1 start with a win at Columbia.

Princeton's seniors will try to make Columbia's Levien Gym one of just two Ivy buildings in which they have never lost. The other is Dartmouth's Leede Arena, where Princeton won last Friday night.

The Tigers stand 5-2 at the halfway point of the Ivy League season. Though the Tigers were 7-0 at this point in their last Ivy run, they weren't undefeated for their three Ivy titles previous to that. Princeton was 6-1 in 2001, 5-2 in 2002, and 6-1 in 2004.

Princeton enters the weekend as the Ivy League leader in scoring defense at 58.0 ppg, in 3-point field goal percentage defense at .331 and in assists at 14.6 apg. Will Barrett is the Ivy League leader in 3-point field goal percentage at .529.

Through Sunday's games nationally, Princeton was in the top 10 percent of Division I in scoring defense (19th, 58.0 ppg allowed), and 3-point field goal percentage (20th, .392).

Princeton hadn't shot below .490 from the field in any of its first six Ivy League games, but the Tigers shot .400 at Harvard last Saturday, its lowest percentage against a Division I opponent since shooting .298 in an OT loss at Wagner on Nov. 28.

Princeton had made at least eight 3-pointers in each game of a four-game stretch heading into the Harvard game, but the Tigers made just four in Cambridge.

Princeton's .364 (4-11) 3-point shooting percentage last Saturday at Harvard was the team's lowest against a Division I opponent since shooting .333 (3-9) from beyond the arc at Akron on Dec. 30.

Since beginning Ivy play, the Tigers had held four of their seven opponents to 59 points or fewer. In the other three games, Columbia (66) took the Tigers down to the final few plays, and Yale (69) and Harvard (69) defeated Princeton.

In both the Yale and Harvard losses, Princeton was outshot from the field overall and from beyond the arc, and the Tigers were narrowly outrebounded in each game as well.

In November, Princeton shot .407 (123-302) from the field. In December, January and February, Princeton has shot .485 (356-734).

Ian Hummer is the only Tiger to have scored in all 21 games this season, but freshman Hans Brase has the team's second-longest streak, scoring in the last 16 contests. The Tigers are 11-2 when they score more than 60 points and 1-7 when they score 60 or fewer.

The Tigers are 8-1 when they shoot 50 percent or better and 4-8 when they shoot below 50 percent. Princeton suffered its first loss in such a game last Saturday against Yale, shooting

The Tigers are 4-0 when they hold opponents below 36 percent shooting and 8-8 when opponents shoot 36 percent or better.

Ten of Princeton's 12 wins have come by double-digit point margins. Seven of the team's nine losses have come by seven points or fewer.

Saturday's game at Harvard was the first loss in which T.J. Bray scored 10+ points, scoring 11 against the Crimson. The Tigers had been 7-0 when Bray reached double digits in points.

Feb. 22 in Princeton basketball history:

Princeton is 39-19 all-time on Feb. 22.

The Tigers were ranked No. 23 in the nation by the AP on Feb. 22, 1991, beating Columbia in Jadwin Gym that day 56-33. That was Princeton's only game against Columbia on Feb. 22.

The last time Princeton played on Feb. 22 was in 2008, when the Tigers lost in OT at Harvard, 74-67.

In 1956, Princeton played a 79-77, five-overtime game at Yale.

Feb. 23 in Princeton basketball history:

Princeton is 19-10 all-time on Feb. 23.

The Tigers were ranked No. 23 in the nation by the AP on Feb. 23, 1991, beating Cornell in Jadwin Gym that day 68-53.

Princeton is 2-0 all-time against Cornell on Feb. 23, winning in 1918 and 1991, both times in Jadwin Gym.

Against Columbia:

In the first meeting this season on Feb. 2 in Jadwin Gym, Princeton led by as many as 14 points midway through the first half, but Columbia went on an 18-5 run to make it a one-point game late in the first half. The Lions even led by one before halftime until a Denton Koon basket with 16 seconds left allowed the Tigers a 37-36 lead into the break.

In the second half on Feb. 2, neither team led by more than six points until the final two minutes. Even then, Princeton had just a three-point lead with nine seconds to go before Princeton sealed it by going 3 of 4 from the foul line.

Princeton held Columbia's leading scorer on the season, Brian Barbour (12.4 ppg), to just six points in the first meeting. Maodo Lo (4.6 ppg) led the Lions with 16 points.

Princeton had slight statistical advantages in the first meeting in shooting percentage (.511 to .464) and rebounding (29-26), but turned the Lions over just three times while committing 10 turnovers of their own.

The Tigers were very effective from 3-point range against the Lions, making 8 of 11 for a 72.7 percent rate.

Princeton's leading scorer on the season, Ian Hummer (15.8 ppg) had 16 points against Columbia, but had 12 of those points from the line. He was 2 of 8 from the field but had seven assists.

In addition to being undefeated in Levien Gym, the Princeton seniors are trying to go undefeated for their careers against Columbia. Princeton has won seven straight against Columbia, with the last loss coming on March 6, 2009 in Levien, 58-44.

Against Cornell:

The Big Red are second in the Ivy League in scoring at 66.5 ppg. The Tigers had trouble with the Ivy League leader in scoring last weekend, losing at Harvard (70.3 ppg).

Cornell's bench outscored Princeton's bench 27-3 in the first meeting on Feb. 1 in Jadwin Gym. Clay Wilson had the three bench points for Princeton while the starting five scored the other 73.

Ian Hummer and Denton Koon had 22 points against Cornell in the first meeting, a career high for Koon that still stands.

Nine Big Red players scored against Princeton, with Josh Figini's 13 points leading the Red off the bench. Shonn Miller added 12 points.

Princeton outshot Cornell 52.9 percent to 41.5 percent, adding a 33-30 rebounding edge.

Newman Arena has been a tough place for the Tigers to play in recent years. Last season, Princeton saw its Ivy League season start with a 67-59 loss in Ithaca. The year before, a Kareem Maddox '11 basket at one end and block at the other saved a 57-55 win. In 2010, Princeton came up three points short, 50-47, of a Cornell team that went on to the NCAA Sweet 16. The 2011 victory was Princeton's only win in Ithaca from 2007 forward, and Princeton hasn't won back-to-back games in Ithaca since 2003 and 2004.

Milestones:

Saturday against Harvard, Ian Hummer became the fourth player in Princeton history to reach 1,500 points and will bring a total of 1,501 into this weekend. Hummer will chip away at the gap between him and Kit Mueller '91 (1,546) and former teammate Douglas Davis '12 (1,550). The record holder is the uncatchable Bill Bradley '65 (2,503), a teammate of Hummer's father Ed '67.

Hummer has already achieved second place on the Princeton career list of field goals made, at 583. Bradley holds the program record at 856. Hummer is sixth in field goals attempted, at 1,142.

Hummer has 682 career rebounds, good for sixth since the stat began being kept in 1954-55. In fifth place is Chris Thomforde '69 with 709.

Hummer's 315 career free throws are eighth in program history, and his 480 FTs attempted are tied for sixth.

Since the stat began being kept in the 1974-75 season, Hummer ranks sixth in the program in career assists, with 285. He recently passed former head coach Sydney Johnson '97 (280), and just ahead of him are former teammate Marcus Schroeder '10 (295) and current head coach Mitch Henderson '98 (304).

Hummer's 104 blocks are fourth on the program list since the stat began being kept for the 1974-75 season. Next up is former teammate Kareem Maddox '11 at 108.

Entering the Season:

Princeton was picked first in the Ivy League preseason poll, getting 16 of 17 first-place votes out of the pool of two media members from each of the eight Ivy markets and one national writer.

Princeton is looking for double-digit Ivy League wins in four straight years for the first time since 2004.

On the program:

Princeton leads the Ivy League with 26 Ivy championships (56 seasons) and 24 NCAA Tournament appearances (all since 1952).

Mitch Henderson '98, the team's Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach, is the 29th man to hold the job and the fourth consecutive alumnus to do so (John Thompson III '88, Joe Scott '87, Sydney Johnson '97).

Henderson, who played in three NCAA Tournaments for Princeton, spent 11 years at Northwestern under one of his former coaches at Princeton, Bill Carmody, as an assistant coach.

Mullins had nine double-digit scoring games over the first 15 games fo the season but none over the last seven ... the Lions have won only one of their last seven games.

On Cornell: While being the Ivy's second-leading scoring team (66.5 ppg), the Big Red are eighth in the Ivy in scoring defense at 68.5 ppg ... Shonn Miller is in the top 10 in the Ivy League in scoring (ninth, 10.9 ppg), rebounding (third, 6.8 rpg), field goal percentage (eighth, .480), free throw percentage (fifth, .795), steals (second, 1.9 spg) and blocks (third, 2.0 bpg) ... 10 players have started a game this season for Cornell, with only Miller and Johnathan Gray starting all 25, Miles Asafo-Adjei starting 22 and Eitan Chemerinski starting 15 ... Miller and Gray are averaging double figures for the Red, at 10.9 and 10.0 ppg, respectively ... Cornell has won three in a row and four of five since the 17-point loss at Princeton on Feb. 1 ... Cornell's only loss over the last five games was by two points at home against Harvard ... the Red swept the Yale-Brown trip last weekend ... when the Big Red have at least 39 points on the board at halftime, they're undefeated at 8-0 ...
