News and Notes: Tuesday Edition

Above, A Date in Cornell Basketball History, the 1975-1976 media guide.  On the cover, head coach Ben Bluitt and Maynard Brown.  Brown was a 1st Team All Ivy selection in 1975 and 2nd team selection in 1976.  Brown earned his B.S. from Cornell in 1976 and his M.B.A in 1983.  Below, news and notes for Tuesday...

  • The Ft. Wayne Journal Courier seems to think Purdue should land Cornell graduate Errick Peck over his other finalists, Xavier, Loyola (IL), and Duquesne.  The Courier writes:
The other reason this could be a big week for Purdue is the pending decision from Errick Peck, the 6-6 former Indiana All-Star from Indianapolis Cathedral who played high school ball with Kelsey Barlow and was seen many times by the Purdue staff.
Peck played as a freshman and sophomore at Ivy League member Cornell, sat out his junior year with a knee injury and played in 2012-2013 as a redshirt junior, averaging 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds.
Now, Peck has a chance to come to Purdue as a fifth-year graduate student for the 2013-2014 season, which would add experience to a roster that as of now would have two scholarship players – Terone Johnson and Travis Carroll – in the junior and senior classes.
Peck is a hard-working wing/small power forward who would be a great locker room guy and a great addition to practices, where he would push some of the younger guys to reach their potential.
Don’t look for a decision from Peck before the weekend, but it would appear Purdue is in good shape with the former Cathedral player.
  • Jeff Foote's (Cornell '10) Zalgiris club goes for the sweep of Rytas in the Lithuanian LKL premier league today.  Foote is out with a back injury and is not expected to play.  Zalgiris leads the series, 3-0.
