News and Notes: Wednesday Edition

Below, news and notes for Wednesday...

  • Cornell Basketball will host Alumni and Friends Weekend from December 6-8. Included will be a Friday evening reception, Saturday's game against Saint Francis (Pa.) and a postgame reception, then Sunday's annual alumni game.
    • The Cornell Basketball Blog updated its latest Roster Report which includes some recent player transactions on Ivy rosters and an updated 2013 and 2014 recruiting commitment list.
    • College Sports Madness is counting down the Top 144 teams in the country and here are some of the notable teams ranked by the website:
#62 Purdue-"Coach Painter has brought in an interesting group of newcomers. Sterling Carter and Errick Peck are both senior transfers who have the potential to make a big impact on the wing. Carter, who comes from Seattle U, is a decent scorer if he can stay healthy and out of trouble. Peck averaged 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds at Cornell last season and he could be the shooter off of the bench that this team desperately needs."
    #88 Boston College-
    #100 Western Michigan-
    #114 Princeton-
    #135 Stony Brook-
    •  The Hoops Report is also counting down teams from 68 and ranks Purdue #51 and writes, "Painter has four power forwards on his roster to choose from to start the season. The top two candidates though are Errick Peck, a transfer from Cornell, and senior Travis Carroll. Carroll's minutes decreased, but he's played three seasons with Purdue and know their system. This could be his season to finally contribute to the team. Errick Peck averaged 24.3MPG for Cornell last season, but only averaged 9.7PPG and 4.8RPG. He finished strong, scoring in double-figures in the final four games and playing over 30 minutes in each of those games. This may be the weak area for Painter this upcoming season, but that all depends on who he chooses. Peck looks to have the advantage, but this is Carroll's last chance."
