- Real Clear Sports credits Princeton-Georgetown of 1989 for saving automatic bids and writes, "To my knowledge, after 1989, the idea of eliminating the automatic bid to smaller conferences was never mentioned again. Ever. So the Lehighs and Coastal Carolinas of the world might owe a small debt to Princeton. So, too, do the Cornells and Harvards, I suppose, though they would loathe to admit it.
