• Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports analyzes the job security of coaches in the Patriot League and writes, "If you get a 1, you are as safe as it gets. If you're a 10, you might want to start looking for a new gig... Army: Zach Spiker -- It's one of the most difficult jobs in America, and the 36-year-old Spiker, a former Cornell assistant, has made progress. He finished in eighth place in his first two seasons, sixth last season and fourth this year with a 15-14 overall mark and a 8-6 record in league play. HOT SEAT INDEX: 3"

• The EuroLeague previews today's huge game between Jeff Foote's (Cornell '10) Zalgiris club against Real Madrid of Spain.

• The Daily Princetonian mentions Ivy Leaguers in the NBA, including Cornell alum, Bryan Colangelo ('87), the General Manager of the Toronto Raptors.

• ESPN writes, "Here at Giant Killer Central, we have been isolating the keys to Cinderella success and boosting your early round brackets longer -- and dare we say better -- than just about anybody. We are proud to have predicted success for a series of low-seeded, unheralded teams that went on to slay Goliaths, from Cleveland State in 2009 to Cornell, Murray State and Old Dominion in 2010 to VCU and Richmond in 2011 to VCU (again) and Ohio last year."

• The Yale Daily News raises the lack of conference tournament debate in the Ivy League and writes, "The 'The lack of a tournament ensures that the best Ivy team plays in the NCAAs!' argument: This idea is the most reasonable. 2010’s Cornell team made it to the Sweet 16, and 2011’s Princeton squad came within two points of knocking off No. 4 seed Kentucky in the first round. If a weaker team had played their way in through an Ivy League tournament, those teams would have diminished chances of pulling off the same upsets."

• The Olean Times Herald discusses how St. Bonaventure has improved late in the season, "after putting up mostly bricks in its first three games of the season (wins over Bethune-Cookman and Cornell and a loss at Canisius), the talk was about coach Mark Schmidt’s team’s inability to score."

• A Latin American guard from the San Antonio, Texas, "Bario" received some recruitment attention from Cornell.

• Cornell RPI Watch: The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of March 7 is No. 243 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 255 in the nation, while the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) have Cornell at No. 249 Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.
