News and Notes: Tuesday Edition

Below, some news and notes for Tuesday...

• YahooSports/SportsXchange published a final Ivy League report and writes with respect to Cornell and the Ivies, "Harvard earned a No. 12 seed in the [NCAA Tournament] East Region, the same seed that conference rival Cornell turned into a Sweet 16 trip two years ago... The Crimson gave the scrappy effort many expected but came up short against the Commodores, losing 79-70... Penn’s Zack Rosen was named the Ivy League Player of the Year for a season in which he led the league in scoring and had the Quakers in the title race until the final game of the regular season. He was joined on the first team by Princeton’s Ian Hummer, Yale’s Greg Mangano, Columbia’s Brian Barbour, Cornell’s Chris Wroblewski, and Harvard’s Kyle Casey... Cornell’s Shonn Miller earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors. He started 21 of the team’s 28 games and finished with averages of 8.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game...Johnathan Gray was named an honorable mention All-Ivy selection after averaging 12.3 points per game in league play. Not bad, considering he arrived on campus as a walk-on. … Drew Ferry averaged three 3-pointers per game in 2011-12, which placed him among the national leaders. He did the vast majority of his damage from beyond the arc. Of his 270 shot attempts, 215 (79.6 percent) came from long range. … Ivy League Rookie of the Year Shonn Miller’s numbers were among the best ever for a Cornell freshman. He set the program’s first-year record for blocked shots (48) and rebounds (170). "

• The Pittsburgh Post Tribune lists the rosters of this weekend's western Pennsylvania area Cager Classic All Star game which will feature committed Cornell recruit, Nolan Cressler (Plum HS) Plum, PA, 6-4, G (class of 2012).

• Committed Cornell recruit, Robert Mischler (Mishawaka HS) Marian, IN, 6-2, was named First Team Academic All State in Indiana. The South Bend Tribune referred to Mischler as a "3-point[er] specialist."

• Committed Cornell recruit, Holt Harmon (Plano West HS), Plano, TX, 6-9, F;, was named All Region by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
  

• Jeff Foote (Cornell '10) returned to the NBA D-League from his 10-day contract in the NBA with the New Orleans Hornets. The Times Picayune of New Orleans noted, "the Hornets didn’t re-sign center 7-foot center Jeff Foote after his 10-day contract expired Sunday." while The Springfield Armor announced:

SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Springfield Armor announced today that they have reacquired center Jeff Foote. Foote will join the team in Bismarck, ND and will be available when the Armor face the Dakota Wizards at 8:00 p.m. ET. The current roster now stands at 10.

Foote (7-0, 265, Cornell) returns to the Armor after earning his first-career GATORADE Call-Up with the New Orleans Hornets. He made his NBA debut on March 9 against the Denver Nuggets, scoring 4 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in 23 minutes off the Hornets’ bench. In four games with New Orleans, Foote averaged 1.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 9.8 minutes.

Prior to joining the Hornets, Foote played in 29 games, 28 starts, with the Armor, averaging 14.8 points, a team-high 8.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 32.9 minutes. He posted a team-high 10 double-doubles and was named a 2012 NBA Development League All-Star. Foote also had a stint with the Portland Trail Blazers in their training camp early in the season.

The Armor return home on Saturday, March 24 when they host their annual ‘Paint it Pink Night’, presented by Big Y, for their 7:00 p.m. game against the Canton Charge. The Armor will be wearing special custom pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game to raise funds for Rays of Hope, the breast cancer research arm of Baystate Medical Center.

• In Foote's first game back in the NBA D-League on Monday evening, he recorded 18 points, 13 rebounds and 1 block against the Dakota Wizards. See recaps of the game in the Springfield Republican and Bismark Tribune. “I think he’s going to have a 12-year NBA career,” Armor coach Bob MacKinnon said of Foote. WETM NBC News of Elmira, NY writes, "Jeff Foote is back in the D-League, after his first ten-day contract in the NBA came to an end. Foote rejoined the Springfield Armor Monday night. He spent the previous ten days with the New Orleans Hornets, who declined to sign him to a second ten-day contract. He played 23 minutes in his NBA debut on Friday, March 9th, but saw his minutes dwindle in the games that followed. He did not see any action during Saturday's game. Foote is now free to earn a call-up from NBA team, but will remain with the Armor for the time being. The former Spencer-Van Etten and Cornell star was a D-League All-Star earlier this season, after spending last year playing overseas." • Illinois HQ celebrates the birth of the three-point shot by remembering a special three-pointer by each Division I program. For Cornell, Illinois HQ writes, "Against Davidson in the 2009-10 MSG Holiday Festival, Ryan Wittman hit a 35-footer at the OT buzzer to send Cornell into the title game against St. John's, won by the Big Red the next night. Cornell eventually advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
