Schedule Update: 2012-2013 Early Glimpse

The Cornell Basketball Blog has pieced together information on Cornell's 2012-2013 schedule. Below is an early glimpse at the Big Red's upcoming opponents on next season's tentative slate of games.

The Big Red's 2012-2013 schedule will feature 31 games.

Ivy League and NCAA rules permit member teams a maximum of 28 regular season games, or alternatively, 27 regular season games plus participation in a mutli team event ("MTE") which can include up to (and may not exceed) an additional 4 games. In the case of Cornell, the Big Red will play 27 games this season plus 4 games in an MTE.

Cornell opens its season on Saturday, November 10, 2012 in a home game against Western Michigan University.  During halftime, Cornell will honor the 1988 Ivy League Championship team.

The month of November for Cornell will be highlighted by participation in the 2012 Las Vegas Invitational, hosted by Basketball Tournaments, Inc. Last year, the field included the University of North Carolina. In this year's 8-team event, Cornell will first face the University of Wisconsin (Big Ten) and Arizona State University (Pac 12) at their respective campuses in Madison, Wisconsin and Tempe, Arizona. The Wisconsin game will be a rematch of the 2010 NCAA Tournament second round in which Cornell defeated the Badgers and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. Cornell has never faced Arizona State. Following the visits to Wisconsin and Arizona State, Cornell will play 2 additional games during Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Orleans Arena (part of the Orleans Hotel & Casino). In Las Vegas, Cornell will be placed in a subdivision and will play 2 of the 3 teams in the subdivision. Longwood University, Presbyterian, Florida A&M (FAMU) and Cornell will be part of the subdivision. Meanwhile, in the upper division of the tournament, Wisconsin and Arizona State will be joined by Arkansas and Creighton. Cornell Athletics is expected to provide ticketing information for fans of the program who wish to attend this prestigious event.

The balance of Cornell's schedule will include high profile roadtrips during December to Duke (ACC) and to Vanderbilt (SEC), the latter as a return home for Cornell senior, Miles Asafo Adjei who is from the Nashville area. (Note: Cornell's trip to Arizona State will also be a homecoming for rising sophomore, Deion Giddens who is from the greater Phoenix area.)

Teams which appeared on the Big Red's 2011-2012 schedule which will once again face Cornell in 2012-2013 include: St. Bonaventure, American, Bucknell, Binghamton, Boston University and Stony Brook.

A renewed central New York rivalry on the 2012-2013 schedule is a meeting with Colgate.  Another new opponent on the schedule is a home date with St. Peter's.
