News and Notes: Friday Edition

• The Brooklyn Nets officially announced that Jeff Foote is on the team's summer league roster.  See ESPN New York and Zags Blog for coverage of the announcement.  Visit the Summer League website for game times and online viewing information.  The New York Post notes, "The Nets have a pair of interesting 7-footers on their roster – Sprinfield Armor alum Jeff Foote and former Wichita State standout Garrett Stutz. Foote earned plaudits for his performance for Springfield, where he averaged 14.6 points, 9.0 rebounds and over a block per game, earning himself a brief call-up to New Orleans."

Jeff Foote Joins Nets' Summer League Roster, Cornell, Spencer-Van Etten graduate looking to break into NBA

ITHACA -- Jeff Foote, a three-time All-Ivy League center at Cornell and Spencer-Van Etten graduate, was named to the Brooklyn Nets' Summer League roster on Tuesday.

Foote's father, Don, said in May that Jeff would accept an invitation to play for the team. Foote, who attended the Nets' free agent camp May 21-23, was called up by the New Orleans Hornets on a 10-day NBA contract last March.

The Nets will play in the Orlando Pro Summer League 2012, held July 9-13. The team will play its first of four games against the host Magic at 11 a.m. July 9. The Nets will also face the Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City.

Foote is joined on the roster by Kansas' Tyshawn Taylor and Tornike Shengelia, who played professionally in Belgium. Both were second-round picks by the Nets last week. Also on the roster are MarShon Brooks, Adam Morrison, Julian Wright and Al Thornton, all of whom have enjoyed extensive stints in the NBA.

Foote is coming off a successful campaign with the Springfield Armor of the NBA Development League, the affiliate of the Nets. He averaged 15.1 points and 8.9 rebounds in 32.6 minutes in 39 regular-season games. He also averaged 1.1 blocks and shot 55 percent from the field.

He was voted to the D-League All-Star Game in February and at the end of the season was named a second-team all-star.

Between graduating from Cornell in the spring of 2010 and first signing with the Armor last December, Foote played professionally in Israel, Morocco and Poland. He also tried out with the Portland Trail Blazers following last year's NBA lockout.

Foote won three Ivy League championships (2008, '09, '10) and helped the Big Red reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2011. He was the conference's Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and '10 and as a senior was selected All-Ivy first team after averaging 12.4 points and leading the conference in field goal percentage (.633) and rebounding (8.1 per game).

As a senior at S-VE, Foote averaged 15 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots and was named first-team all-Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

•  Jason Hartford (Cornell '08) and his Yamhill Highflyers had their International Basketball League season come to an end.  Hartford scored 18 points in the team's season ending loss to Vancouver.  See the News Register.
