TV, Red-White Game and Duke Tickets ... the 2012-13 Men's Hoops Season

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The 2012-13 Cornell men's basketball season kicks off today ... not with midnight madness, but with a late-night practice all the same. The Big Red will hit the court for the first time together tonight after the Cornell-Harvard volleyball match in Newman Arena. The closed practice will kick off the highly anticipated season.

So, when can fans and alumni get an opportunity to see the Big Red for the first time? Mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. for the annual Red-White basketball intrasquad scrimmage. Details of the scrimmage haven't been settled and will be announced next week.

Also this week, the Ivy League announced its 2012-13 national television schedule that included a pair of televised Big Red games. NBC Sports Network is scheduled to show the Cornell-Columbia Ivy League opener on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. in Ithaca. In addition, the Big Red's season finale at Harvard will also be broadcast on NBC Sports Network on Saturday, March 9 at 5:30 p.m. Those games are in addition to previously announced television contests at Wisconsin (ESPN3), at Arizona State (Pac 12 Network), at Vanderbilt (ESPNU), at Duke (ESPNU) and at Binghamton (Time Warner Cable - Central New York).

Because a lot of people have been asking ... tickets to the Cornell-Duke game in Durham, N.C. on Dec. 19 are available to purchase through the Cornell Athletic Ticket Office online at http://cornellbigredtickets.universitytickets.com/user_pages/event_listings.asp . Fans and alumni are encouraged to buy the tickets quickly, as a limited number are for sale.

Cornell and head coach Bill Courtney improved their win total overall and in Ivy League play in 2011-12, finishing 12-16 overall and 7-7 in conference action. The Big Red is scheduled to return 10 of its 12 leading scorers, including 2011-12 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Shonn Miller and All-Ivy guard Johnathan Gray, who spent part of the summer competing on the U.S. Virgin Islands' national team. Also expected to return is starting forward Errick Peck, the team's second-leading scorer in 2010-11 who missed last season due to injury.
