Yale, meanwhile, took the biggest leap forward Feb. 3-4. It got a badly needed home sweep of Penn and Princeton to stay right on Harvard’s heels with a 5-1 record. The bad news for the Bulldogs is that six of their eight remaining games are on the road, beginning with this week’s trip to Cornell and Columbia. Cornell is also in striking distance at 3-3, and it needs a win over Yale to stay on the fringes of the race.

***• Much of Harvard’s offense over the weekend came at the free-throw line. The Crimson had 34 attempts from the stripe against Cornell and 32 more against Columbia. It took full advantage by making 29 of those tries against the Big Red, but followed that by missing 11 against Columbia to shoot just 65.6 percent.
• Cornell finally broke through Feb. 4 in its 68-59 victory against Dartmouth. That marked the Big Red’s first victory on the road this season after it lost its first 10 trips away from home.

• Don’t accuse Dartmouth’s bench of being passive. In the 68-59 loss to Cornell on Feb. 4, the Big Green reserves took more than half of the team’s shots and scored more than half of the points. The top two shooters and scorers, Kirk Crecco and Gabas Maldunas, both came off the bench against the Big Red.

• Shonn Miller won Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for his efforts against Dartmouth and Harvard. The freshman forward averaged 12 points, nine rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in holding the Big Red secure a 1-1 road trip. The victory over the Big Green was the first road win for the Big Red this year.
• Junior G Johnathan Gray was the only Cornell player to score in double figures in both games during the first weekend of February. He had 14 points in the loss to Harvard, 13 in the victory over Dartmouth.
• Sophomore F Dwight Tarwater had a huge game against Dartmouth, more than holding his own against the strong Big Green frontcourt. He set a career high with nine rebounds, four of which came on the offensive end, and also scored six points.
• Senior G Chris Wroblewski went 9-for-9 from the free-throw line over the first weekend of February, going 7-for-7 against Dartmouth and 2-for-2 in the loss to Harvard. He was shooting 86.4 percent from the line this season through Feb. 4, making a run at the 87.3 percent he shot in his freshman year.

• Senior G Kirk Crecco provided a spark off the bench against Cornell, scoring a season-high 15 points in the 68-59 defeat. He wasn’t shy about putting up shots, as his 13 attempts were five more than any other teammate had.
Harvard
***• Sophomore G Laurent Rivard was the team’s most consistent offensive threat during the first weekend of February. He scored 16 points in the victory over Cornell, and he followed that with 20 against Columbia.
