News and Notes: Afternoon Edition

Get all the information you need about the Cornell Big Red's games vs. Penn (Friday, February 17, 7 pm) and Princeton (Saturday, February 18, 6 pm), with The Cornell Basketball Blog's Game Preview Center. Below, some afternoon news and notes...

  • Chicago Now writes of the Illinois basketball team, " Like the football team, they had some really ugly wins (St. Bonaventure, Cornell) that made you realize the road ahead was indeed troubled."
  • The Tiger Blog writes, "If the Princeton men's basketball team can sweep its home games this weekend against Columbia and Cornell, then the Tigers would be 6-3 in the Ivy League. With a Yale win over Harvard mixed in, then Princeton would be back in the situation of knowing that if it won the rest of its games, it would be assured of no worse than a tie for the league title. As an aside, TigerBlog hates the term 'controls one's own destiny,' because your destiny is your destiny and as such just happens and cannot be controlled. Disclaimer from above - if Cornell sweeps this weekend and gets the same help, then it would know the same thing."
  • CBS Sports says tonight's game is a game to watch and writes, "Another one to watch: Cornell at Penn (7 p.m.). With Harvard losing last week, things have opened up a little bit in the Ivy League standings. Cornell and Penn are both within striking distance, as Penn is 5-2 and 1.5 games back, while Cornell is two games back in fourth place. The winner of this one stays in the hunt. The key will be 3-point shooting – Penn relies heavily on 3-pointers, but Cornell guards the perimeter effectively."
