- The next Cornell Rebounders Club luncheon is February 21.
- ESPN's Recruiting Nation shows the commitment of Robert Mischler (Mishawaka HS) Marian, IN, 6-2, G to Cornell. In reporting the news, ESPN did not list Cornell's full recruiting class which includes Braxston Bunce (Kelowna Secondary School) Kelowna, BC, Canada, 6-11 in addition to Holt Harmon (Plano West HS), Plano, TX, 6-9, F and Nolan Cressler (Plum HS) Plum, PA, 6-4, G (class of 2012). Cornell also has a 2013 commit in Tim Higgins (Paul VI HS) Fairfax, VA, 6-10, C (class of 2013). Bunce, arguably the most highly recruited member of the Cornell 2012 class, turned down a scholarship offer from the Pac 10's Washington State program as well as offers to take official visits to Virginia Tech and Marquette. These visits are significant because offers are typically made during official visitations. Bunce did take a visit to Washington State and also received offers from schools such as Nevada, Hawaii, Boise State, Utah State and New Mexico State as well as from Penn and Columbia in the Ivy League.
- After Nolan Cressler scored 28 points in a win against Gateway, Mitch Adams, Gateway's coach said, "The next time I see Nolan Cressler, I hope it's in a Cornell uniform."
- Celebrating Black History Month, the Ivy League Office notes, "DID YOU KNOW? The Ivy League boasts five African-American alumni who are currently NCAA Division I men's basketball head coaches that have combined for 471 coaching wins (as of Feb. 4). Cornell's Jeff Jackson (at Furman), Penn's Jerome Allen (at Penn) and Princeton's Sydney Johnson (at Fairfield), Craig Robinson (at Oregon State) and John Thompson III (at Georgetown) headline a list of 11 Ivy League alumni serving as NCAA Division I men’s basketball head coaches during the 2011-12 season. They traded in their sneakers for clipboards and now are leading the next wave of Ivy League graduates to make their way to the sidelines... Jackson (95 wins) never played a game of varsity basketball at Cornell. Actually, he went to Ithaca to play football, playing safety on the freshman team. However, it was during his undergraduate days when he got into coaching. Jackson served as a student coach with the junior varsity basketball team three years and even spent one season as a graduate assistant with the football team. He graduated from Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations, majoring in management and organizational development. After serving one season as a graduate assistant coach at Southern California, Jackson's basketball coaching career took off. He had assistant positions at St. Bonaventure, Colorado State and Stanford before serving as head coach at New Hampshire for three seasons. Jackson departed New Hampshire following the 1998-99 season and went to Vanderbilt where he served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for seven seasons. During his seven years in Nashville, Vanderbilt advanced to the postseason five times (one NCAA Tournament and four National Invitation Tournaments). He got his second shot as a head coach on April 24, 2006, when Furman named him the school's 16th head coach."
- The Columbia Spectator makes a case for increased TV coverage for the Ivy League and writes, "Ivy basketball has clearly risen in fame over the last few years following Cornell’s run to the Sweet Sixteen."
- The Springfield Republican reports on Jeff Foote's (Cornell '10) inclusion in the NBA D-League All Star Game. See also ESPN's Nets Are Scorching and the official press release from the Springfield Armor organization. Foote is in action tonight with his Springfield Armor as they face Texas. The only better news for a D-League player would be a call-up to the NBA and getting selected by fan voting and the D-League coaches for the All-Star Game is a step in the right direction.

All three players spent time in NBA camps during the preseason, Curry and Smith with the Nets, who are in a hybrid relationship with the Armor, and Foote with Portland.
“It’s been kind of a wild ride for me the last two years so it’s kind of nice to be recognized again,” Foote said.
The Armor signed Foote out of the available player pool. Foote spent last year playing in Israel and Spain and started this season in Poland before returning stateside and joining Erie in the preseason.

Cornell grad Foote chosen for all-star game
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Jeff Foote, a Spencer-Van Etten High graduate and former three-time All-Ivy League center for the Cornell basketball team, has been selected to participate in the sixth annual NBA Development League All-Star Game, it was announced Wednesday by his team, the Springfield Armor.
Two of his Armor teammates -- guards JamesOn Curry and Jerry Smith --also were chosen to play in the game, which will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in Orlando, Fla., as part of NBA All-Star Weekend. The D-League All-Star game will air live on NBA TV (Time Warner Cable channel 28).
The Armor (15-13) and the Los Angeles D-Fenders (20-10) both had a league-high three players chosen to play.
"I'm extremely happy for all three guys and for our organization," Armor head coach Bob MacKinnon said in a statement. "This shows how hard they've worked and how supportive their teammates have been. We're looking forward to continuing our season and hopefully making a strong run toward the playoffs."
Foote, reached Wednesday evening by phone, said he found out about his and his teammates' selection after a "tough" practice earlier in the day.
"It's kind of cool, especially after the whirlwind couple of years I've had," said Foote, who played in Israel, Morocco (in the Spanish second division) and Poland in 2010 and '11. "I knew that there was voting (for the All-Star Game) but I really didn't think too much about it. I always kind of thought some of my teammates would go before me, so I'm pretty excited."
The 7-foot, 265-pound Foote, acquired by Springfield in November from the NBA D-League's available player pool this season, is averaging 14.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 31.9 minutes a game. He has registered a team-high eight double-doubles and is sixth in the league in rebounding. Foote spent time in NBA training camp with the Portland Trail Blazers before joining the Armor.
Foote holds the record for defensive rebounds in a career at Cornell (454) and is third in blocked shots (159) and averaged 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds for his career.
A 2005 S-VE graduate, Foote averaged 12.3 points his senior year at Cornell, when the Big Red went 29-5, won its third straight Ivy League title, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
Foote -- whose D-League club has won four of its last five, including a 117-99 defeat of Sioux Falls last Friday -- is hopeful that an NBA team will give him a call during the current 10-day call-up period.
"I was in Portland last year, so I think that's my best shot," he said, "but we're the (New Jersey) Nets affiliate, and they've taken a little interest. You never know; it all depends on the teams and what they need."
The 6-4 Curry, who played college ball at Oklahoma State, is averaging 16.9 points and 6.3 assists. The 6-2 Smith, the reigning NBA D-League Performer of the Week and a former Louisville player, is averaging a team-high 17.7 points and 5.2 rebounds.
A combination of voting by the league's 16 head coaches and fan balloting on nba.com/dleague was used to select the 20 NBA D-League All-Stars, 10 from each conference.

- Cornell RPI Watch: The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). Cornell's RPI rank as of February 9 is No. 187 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or Jeff Sagarin rankings are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 182 in the nation, while the USA Today Sagarin rankings have Cornell at No. 192.
