News and Notes: Tuesday Edition

• An update on Cornell's opponent records-to-date: W. Michigan (6-3); St. Bonaventure (5-3), St. Peter's (4-5); Wisconsin (6-4); Arizona St. (8-1); Presbyterian (1-7); Longwood (2-7); Stony Brook (6-2); Colgate (3-7).

• Jeff Foote (Cornell '10) and his Zalgiris club of Lithuania, now back up to No. 5 in the European rankings, take their 7-2 Group C record in the EuroLeague into action in the opening round's final round robin game, a meeting with Anadolu Efes Istanbul on December 14.  Efes, ranked No. 7 in Europe, has a roster that includes a pair of former long time LA Laker role players, Jordan Farmar (4 seasons) and Sasha Vujacik (7 seasons).  Foote is averaging 3.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in the EuroLeague.  

• After opening the season on December 4 with a 48-32 win over Therrell High School, Cornell recruiting commitment, David Onuorah (Marist HS) Atlanta, GA, 6-8, 230, F, and his Marist High School team face Grady High School tonight.

• Cornell RPI Watch: The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or        not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team                    winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents'              opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of December 11 is No. 224 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 238 in the nation, while the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) have Cornell at No. 236 Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.
