STORY LINES:
After a productive first weekend, the Cornell men's basketball team will continue its early season sprint with the home opener against Central New York rival Colgate on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y. The game will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Digital Network, while Barry Leonard and Eric Taylor '05 will call the game on 98.7 FM The Buzzer.
Cornell pulled one of the biggest upsets of the opening weekend of college basketball season with its 68-60 triumph over George Mason in the season opener before dropping a tight 76-71 contest at Loyola (MD). Cornell has already matched its win total against Division I teams from a season ago when it went 2-26 overall. The Big Red has the looks of a team on the rebound, playing suffocating defense (.339 field goal percentage defense, .326 3-point percentage defense, 68.0 ppg. allowed, 6.0 blocked shots per game) in both contests.
The biggest difference from last year is the return of first-team All-Ivy selection Shonn Miller, who missed the 2013-14 season with a shoulder injury. The 6-7 forward returned with a bang, recording 21 points and 13 rebounds in the upset of George Mason and collecting 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals at Loyola (MD). His averages of 20.5 ppg., 11.0 rpg. and 2.0 bpg. earned him the Ivy League's initial Player of the Week award.
Other big differences include the return of senior Galal Cancer (13.0 ppg., 3.0 rpg.) after a year away from basketball, the move of senior Devin Cherry to point guard (8.0 ppg., 7.0 rpg., 5.5 apg.) and the maturation of sophomores Robert Hatter (19.0 ppg., 4.5 rpg.) and David Onuorah (4.5 ppg., 6.5 rpg., 2.0 bpg.). Sophomore guard Darryl Smith (3.0 ppg., 1.5 rpg.) has also provided key minutes in the backcourt, while senior Deion Giddens (1.5 rpg., 1.0 bpg.) and freshman swingman Wil Bathurst (1.5 ppg., 1.5 rpg.) have also played important minutes. In all, head coach Bill Courtney has used a 12-man rotation in each of the first two games, though only six players are averaging double figure minutes.

The Raiders, coming off a 13-18 season under fourth-year head coach Matt Langel, return six of their top seven scorers from a season ago, though lost is the man who topped the charts, Murphy Burnatowski (14.2 ppg.). Three double figure scorers from a season ago — Austin Tillotson (13.3 ppg, 4.4 apg.), Ethan Jacobs (11.5 ppg.) and Damon Sherman-Newsome (11.3 ppg.) — are back for Colgate, which was picked to finish eighth in the Patriot League's preseason poll. Colgate brings an 0-1 record into the contest after a 57-52 loss at La Salle on Nov. 15.

LAST TIME VS. COLGATE:
• Nolan Cressler scored a game-high 19 points to pace three double figure scorers, but Colgate opened the second half on a 9-0 run and never looked back in an 81-58 win over Cornell on Nov. 20, 2013 at Cotterell Court.
• Cressler added four rebounds and a steal to his 8-of-18 shooting night and has now reached double figures in the scoring column in nine consecutive games.
• Devin Cherry scored 12 points, dished three assists, grabbed two rebounds and collected two steals, while Deion Giddens hit all five of his field goals en route to a career-best 10 points.
• The Big Red shot 41 percent from the floor, but was just 4-of-20 from 3-point range and committed 14 turnovers.

• Senior Shonn Miller blocked a pair of shots against George Mason to surpass the 100 career block milestone. He became the fifth player in Cornell history to reach that plateau.
• Twenty one of Miller's 22 rebounds so far this season have come on the defensive glass.
• With 21 points and 13 rebounds against the Patriots, Miller recorded his eighth career double-double.
• Miller is the first Cornell player with consecutive 20-point games since Nolan Cressler scored 29 points at Yale and 22 at Penn last season.
