Captains of the Big Red





ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior forward Dwight Tarwater and junior guard Devin Cherry were elected 
 captains of the Cornell men's basketball team for the 2013-14 season it was announced this week by Bill Courtney, the Robert E. Gallagher '44 Head Coach of Men's Basketball.

Tarwater has played in 51 career games with eight starts and is arguably the most experienced player on the Big Red roster. He has accumulated 124 points and 82 rebounds in his three seasons. The native of Knoxville, Tenn. Tarwater scored a career-high 11 points in 19 minutes of action at Boston University with three 3-pointers in the loss before missing more than a month after a death in the family. He was a two-time all-state and three-time all-region selection at the Webb School.

Cherry has lettered in each of his first two seasons and took over as one of the squad's leaders this fall. He ranked among the team's scoring leaders off the bench a year ago (6.2 ppg.) and will be asked to be one of the squad's primary offensive options. He posted a career-high 16 points at Boston University and had 14 in three other games. The Meridian, Miss. native was part of a state championship team at Meridian HS and was named the state's Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior.

Tarwater and Cherry will lead the Big Red onto the court this evening at No. 8/7 Syracuse at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome before Sunday's home opener against Loyola (MD) at 4 p.m. at Newman Arena.
